Over the years, many books and articles have been written about officer safety and survival when approaching subjects, making vehicle stops, and effecting arrests. Pierce R. Brooks’ famous book, “Officer Down, Code Three” contains stories of officers killed in the line of duty. The book lists the "Deadly Errors" that led to their deaths and tells us how and why the officer was killed. As you read such stories, you may find that you have committed the same mistakes that they did, but you were lucky and went home at the end of your shift.
